My My/Ivan Smagghe Last Weekend@Pod/Crawdaddy in Dublin
I thought the night was pretty good, though I didn’t catch much of My My in the main room. I enjoyed warming up for Smagghe despite the inevitable comedown that comes with handing over the reins just as things get going!
Smagghe was very good, just as you’d expect he kept things quite brooding and menacing, most of what he was playing was more techno than minimal, I didn’t know many tunes really, but thought he built a great set and got the place going off pretty well. He ended with the new Chemical Brothers tune which seems to be a pretty desperate Booka Shade ripoff, albeit a good one. Still, imagine how sickening the broadsheets and album buyers fellating them over a full length in this style would be!
Here’s a video of Ivan Smagghe playing, if anyone wants to ID the track that’d be cool.

Yeah it was pretty busy tho I think after Booka Shade in there it will never feel busy again to me…well that plus the fact I stood at the side rather than getting bumped into…
Everyone seemed to be on the end of some 3 day bender…at least amongst the people who do those! (you know who you are)
