No radio tonight…

Left to Right: Bus Driver/Stereotypical Irishman

There’s no radio show tonight, because of Seachtain Na Gaeilge (a festival where a minority of people decide to care about the Irish language for 7 days of the year, eg saying hello to a bus driver in Irish or wearing a stupid little badge)

So anyone who listens can use this week to take a breather. I’m enjoying not frantically amassing tunes for once on a Thursday. Though I’m still gathering tunes, albeit a little less frantically, cos I’m playing at Backlash tonight, in our new venue, the Pod. If you’re living in Dublin, come down and check it out. I have a feeling it could be really good tonight. I’m playing 2-3, all the other residents are playing. Who knows, maybe Gerry and his friend Marshall Jefferson (above) may come down.

In the meantime I may try and do a little mix anyway, today or tomorrow, one not tied down to the strict “last 7 days” thing that the radio shows tend to be. (Or I may not) But while I’m deciding this and gathering some tunes, I really recommend you check out 4T4 and Mauro Pawlowski’s “One Foot In Life”. This is “4T’s Space Mix” and it’s the work of someone who’s been paying serious attention to Carl Craig’s recent arpeggiated monsters. The indie vocal makes it sound a little like if the Flaming Lips or Mercury Rev worked with Carl on one of their ridiculous bombastic orchestral tracks. I bought this a long time ago, around January maybe, and sat on it for ages, I think I forgot about it, but it really is something special. Enjoy.

And if you haven’t already, check out the Carl Craig mix of the Junior Boys. Weird how a house beat makes them sound kinda sleazy. (And yeah, I know, more Craigtalk, at this rate I’ll need to start a category for all Craig related posts)

Sleazy, yeah, but also pretty uninteresting? For as much as I loved the original, Craig’s version is pretty low impact, sweeping spacecraft synths and peaked out ending aside. I like the pitches he uses, I’m just not wowed like I usually am with C2’s productions.

Oh well; I enjoy the rest of his work and remixes to smooth this bump over without a second thought.

I really like it…I think it’ll be a good in a club too…when that bass drum kicks in.

Thanks for the support! Glad you like the track, and, yes, I have been paying serious attention to C2’s work, but how can one not?
    Cheers!
