FAT

Ok first of all an apology, the label is called Freude-Am-Tanzen, and I’ve called it Freude-Am-Tamzen every time I’ve talked about it on this blog, making me the number one search engine result for the incorrectly spelled version. To ensure no further errors, I’ve called the label just FAT above.

Freude-Am-Tanzen is one of those labels that has been around for truly a long time, as in, when they started releasing music in 1998 I was probably not even halfway through school. Whenever I started getting into German house music, around 2003 or so, I can often remember finding Freude-Am-Tanzen a bit crazy, though I think I have a few old 12s, and probably loads of Wighnomy Brothers stuff.

But as my interest in some of the other grandfather labels (Kompakt, Traum) has waned hugely since back then, I’ve come to really like Freude-Am-Tanzen, especially some of the releases in the last year or so. In fact speaking of Traum, am I the only one who finds it incredibly difficult to pay attention to anything they do lately apart from Eulberg’s releases and maybe Cosmic Sandwich? I feel bad because they are extremely nice about promo copies of 12s, but I just amn’t feeling a lot of the tunes.

I do wonder sometimes though if giving out 128kbps promos as they do sort of taints the product, I know in some cases where this happens, unless it’s a really amazing track, I don’t play the record cos I don’t feel the quality is high enough, and then I don’t buy it either cos I’ve already heard it and am kinda bored of it by the time it comes out. I reckon I’m not the only one either, 320kbps promos show class! But then I guess people give them away for free. For what it’s worth I think I’ve only once shared a promo here, as people can probably tell most of the stuff I share is stuff I’ve bought from Beatport.

Anyway, one recent FAT release that must be checked out is Marek Hemann and Matthias Kaden’s amazing “Tandem EP”, released late last summer. But currently I’m really feeling Douglas Greed’s “Ille Unde Soeren”. Check it out, I’ve been playing this one a bit (mostly at home). Also as a totally unrelated bonus, but it’s so good I had to share it, here’s Jacek Sienkiewicz’s amazing “Good Luck” on Cocoon, this one is really epic and should appeal to some of the more classical techno heads out there! The b-side is also really good and it’s out now.
