“yes, the mega bomb”

There’s a lot of buzz from Tuning Spork about a new single by Jay Haze and Ricardo Villalobos, called “Free Your Mind”. This is their Ibiza smash I’m told. I just got it to do the press for it today (so discount my opinion if you think this makes me a schill.) In any case first impressions are good.
It’s a seriously deep, melancholy piece of Balearic sounding house music, full of little dub hollows and based on a melody which is on that early 90s “Papua New Guinea” sort of vibe. I can’t really emphasise how much more hippyish and euphoric this is than anything I’ve heard from either producer to date. It’s a really beautiful record which I can see being played by pretty much everyone.
Perhaps to hammer the hippy point home, it comes with a “Guitar Mix” which has some ecstatic guitar solos in the background (think sleazy). There’s no doubt this is aimed at Ibiza, and I love it. Should be out in time for the summer, I’ll play it on my show this week.
