Kiki-ing the habit

Although there’s no doubt he is a good DJ and has a scarf, I’ve never really liked Kiki’s production, apart from “Wasp” which he did with Silversurfer around 4 or 5 years ago. It has never been bad, just seldom mindblowing or great. That’s why I think his latest production “Gute Nacht” on Bpitch Control is his best piece of work to date. I played this at Backlash last week and it went down a real treat.

This is a shuddering, almost schaffel style techno track with real drama and Kiki’s usual gothy feel, built around a Detroit style organ riff and practically buried with bass. It sounds like one extended breakdown, suggesting that Kiki has been listening to Audion’s recent smashes. From the title I assume this one is meant for the end of the night, but I think it’s enjoyable pretty much any time, once the volume is loud!

Remember if you like this, support Kiki and Bpitch and buy the rest of the EP.

funny, my sentiments entirely and its currently waiting in my beatport cart for checkout. Never liked any of his other stuff so far, as you said, not terrible, but not great.

“Welcome To Berlin” never floated your boat?

Far superior to “Wasp” in my opinion.

What about ‘St. Tropez’ he did with Silversurfer for about 4 years ago, amazing track. Agree about the lack of recent tunes though. To my knowledge ‘Welcome to Berlin’ was just Silversurfer.

yeah that’s true actually, it was just Silversurfer.
