Month to Month 2-Germany goes deep

Here’s the second installment of my “Month to Month” column on Resident Advisor, featuring interviews with Hamburgers Kai Fischer (DJ Eurokai) and Meta83 of Liebe Detail, young Irish producer John Daly, New York’s Dennis Ferrer (as he taxied through his “second home” in Greece, I was just about to depart to a friend’s second home in Boyle, County Roscommon) as well as quotes from Kristian Beyer from Innervisions/Âme.

This month was a little more intense but I think the column is better and a little deeper (groan) too. I also learned how difficult it can be to get interviews with people in the underground techno scene, so a massive thank you to those who did give me the time (and apologies to the few people I couldn’t fit in). Hope the piece is enjoyable and if you’re not familiar with this music, why not support Rupert Murdoch by diving into some of those Myspace links for some really great sounds.

Great article man! I really enjoyed it..

Nice article, and excellent points raised. Can’t really argue with any of it.

Tune that for me stradles the deep/minimal divide (if there is such a thing) is the audion remix of blackstrobe - lush and harsh at the same time, minimal arrangement but deep impact. Interesting that it was made by an American.

    LOL. Why?

I take it back, it’s not particularly interesting that it was made by an American - busy morning and typing without thinking. The style is much more interesting than the provenance.

Great piece. I, for one, have really been feeling this little change of direction in the techno scene. It makes me, gasp, dance. Those guys at Dial and Innervisions have been putting out some fantastic stuff.

This looks very simular to something Richard Brophy wrote on his blog a few weeks back. A bit of friendly plagerism maybe Ronan??? Good work all the same, even if the content is knocked off. Looking forward to the next one.

surely you can do better than this jay :) But you know, if I really wanted to rip off Richard then I’d go for his forté: depressing diatribes about modern day minimal, the joy of a good stint of hard work (eg carrying a record bag or digging through dusty crates, preferably with splinters on them) and how so many modern producers and DJs (who always remain nameless) are shit. So that’s next month’s column sorted then! Perhaps you can take some pointers from my plagiarism (that’s how it’s spelled) since Richard is obviously such a fatherly presence for you.
