Needles (no ink)

Today I’m going for acupuncture, which should be fantastic. In the meantime, some of you may want to read this month’s “Month In Techno” over at Pitchfork.

It contains some interesting thoughts on some of the artists discussed in last week’s Month to Month column coupled with a suggestion that this German deep house thing might not last very long. I think I probably am inclined to agree, at first I was pretty sceptical about the sound but at some point in the last few months I abandoned my reservations.

Most of my concern was (and is) that there’s nothing forward thinking about so many people suddenly looking to the past. But I guess I’m enjoying so many of these records that it’s easier to relinquish the idea that innovation is the be all and end all in dance music. I mean, this is house we’re talking about afterall. I do think that that harder techno sounds will come back to rival this deeper house stuff, that seems as certain as day and night to me, and is probably in the beginnings of happening already. I just didn’t want to derail this month’s piece with that idea.

Anyway, check out the article, post your thoughts, and if you like, share your acu-experiences, for me it’s needle time! A more interesting post will follow this evening, depending on your perspective.

acupuncture; beware the hard sell of magic pills that are required to complete the treatment.

I’m pretty scared of needles, so acupuncture probably wouldn’t be for me…
I’d say I really like what Sydenham and Minilogue have been up to recently, but i’m a bit more excited by the wonkier tracks from people like DJ Koze and Skoozbot. Less chinstroking and more funk.
(Enjoyed the podcast by the way. Shame I can’t listen live eh.)
