Schill Out

Just when you thought there weren’t any gimmicks left to sell chill out compilations, that posh hotels and bars were boring, or that cheesy cover versions were clichéd, you realise you were wrong. I read this on an Irish dance forum today, apparently Michael Caine has compiled one now!
He’s been quoted as saying: “I’ve loved this type of music for years, and have literally hundreds of CDs. I’ve been buying them for about 15 years and really know my way around. About 10 years ago I started making my own compilations. I’ve always been interested in music, and over the years have made literally thousands of tapes. And, with chillout, I suppose I finally found my forte”
Tracklist:
1. No Ordinary Morning - Chicane
2. Silence -Delerium feat. Sarah McLachlan
3. Café de Flor - Doctor Rockit
4. Lay Lady Lay - Magnet feat. Gemma Hayes
5. Summertime - Wass feat. Earl T
6. Sinnerman (Felix da Housecat mix) - Nina Simone
7. Rose Rouge - St. Germain
8 Sunshine’s Better (Talvin Singh mix) - John Martyn
9. Path of Love - Atman
10. Crossing - Agartha
11. Everytime - Lustral
12. Spiritual High (State of Independence) - Moodswings feat. Chrissie Hynde
13. Jupiter - Craig Preuss
14. Swollen - Bent
15. Street Tattoo - Stan Getz
16. Hurry To Me - Roy Budd
17. Fields of Gold - Eva Cassidy
18. Move Closer - Phyllis Nelson
It doesn’t look great I guess, though Roy Budd’s dreamy dead-eyed style is really worth checking out if you’re not familiar with it already. It is quite funny to think of Michael Caine listening to Delerium though, or of Delerium being on this civilised chill out compilation.
That said, can other actors be far behind? Will the Woody Allen minimal compilation one day be a reality? (Okay, I know I’ve milked that joke completely dry by now!) What other Hollywood stars would you be amused to see releasing a compilation? Also did anyone hear that rumour that Juliette Lewis is releasing a single on Ed Banger?

I read about this a while ago somewhere else, apparently he was over for dinner with Elton John and mentioned he like this sort of music. Ellton then picked up the phoned, called God knows who, and within minutes had secured Michael a record deal.
If this is true I don’t know, but apparently its a three album deal……

Ha! “Silence” is chillout?
I don’t think it’s particularly strange that actors/celebrities should release compilations, or even their own DJ mixes.
Like the rest of us, celebrities have their own taste in music, and seeing as actors are generally pretty creative and/or artsy people, it makes sense to also have a passion for it.
Wasn’t it you who met Elijah Wood Ronan? Or did I read that on another blog? He seems to love dance music…

I think that Ryan Tubridy should bring out at least one collection of his favourite lounge music.
