Prosumably

It’s nice to see Prosumer has done the latest Resident Advisor Podcast, given he’s had a few cool releases over the years. I guess I first became familiar with him when he did vocals on Sebo K’s “Moved”, a single from early last year on Mobilee. He’s probably one of the best vocalists around at the moment, albeit in a house and techno scene that is quite often devoid of vocals.

But as a producer, I think his remix of Dash Dude’s “Tell Em In The City” on Morris Audio is probably the best thing he’s done to date and a record that really stands out. What’s interesting is that you can tell he is not as technically adept as some producers, and that this track is a little rough around the edges. However in spite, or because of this his re-work still really stands out and has a song like quality to it too.

I guess it’s almost a cliché to suggest that pristine production is not always the best approach, so I won’t say that. What I will say is that perhaps if someone is trying to make music that evokes the sound of early Chicago House, as Prosumer seems to be (at least, judging by his myspace), pristine production is probably not necessary.

Some of you may have spotted this fine track in a few of the mixes I’ve put up here lately. But for those who haven’t, and since it’s not in the RA Podcast, I’ve put a stream of it below.

I also really like the Mr G single on Careless that he’s included in the podcast. I guess for people who liked the Efdemin RA podcast (certainly my favourite), this Prosumer one is a good tip, albeit with many more older tracks. Check it out.

heh…well, I guess not as clean as other stuff you’d find even worse in that respect.

did you check the RA mix?

    i likes it dirty!

not yet. the tracklisting is pretty promising though, some nice stuff mixed in there for sure. ive heard other dj sets of his that were kinda bland 90s chicago deep house kinda stuff, thankfully the podcast doesnt look like that!

I was also marveling over that Mr. G track. I liked a bunch of this mix and got a chuckle out of the news sample about OJ’s recent arrest.

Nice little mix there. Not quite up there with the Efdemin mix, but very nice house vibe nonetheless.
