Ricardo and Bernardo

This is an interesting little bootleg of an old Ricardo Villalobos track with New Order’s “Confusion”. Normally I can’t stand bootlegs but then this isn’t one of those “omg! missy elliott kinda sits over george michael for 3 bars” style mashups that were so prominent in 2002.

It actually works extremely well, the whole thing has a sparse and cold feeling to it. I guess New Order always had a certain austerity to their sound so they’re a good match for Villalobos here. I’m pretty sure this wasn’t done by Ricardo himself, it’s just a white label 12 that you can get on Juno at the moment, but it’s a well executed boot so worth checking out. It’s a nice treat for the weekend, if you like your treats to be techno that is.

After experiencing Sinner in Me, I don’t even find this track noteworthy

I agree, it’s kind of underwhelming.

this also incorporates “Above The Skyline” by Mr. James Barth & A.D (project of Cari Lekebusch and Alexi Delano)

which is a really great deep tech house classic all on it’s own, go look for it.

sorry for such unabashed negativity, but i thought this was a risible turd when i listened to the original juno sample, and christ, it’s even worse than i suspected. it “incorporates” ‘above the skyline’ because it’s just a rip from the first dan bell button down mind cd (which mixes above the skyline… into villalobos… frank mueller melodram) with the new order vocal stuck on it! so they didn’t even bother using the full original villalobos track to make the bootleg up. you can hear bell mixing out into round four at the end there. quite shocking.

that is pretty lame in principle at least …I do still quite like this though…it’s not up to the standard of a villalobos remix perhaps, but I enjoyed it all the same.
