Sliwinski sounds like Lewinski (failed to think of a pun)

So I’m really enjoying Ralph Sliwinski’s new 12 on Hartchef Discos. It’s an EP called “Magazahn” and it’s the sort of minimal stuff I quite like lately, with nice bass and a slightly housier feel to things but still some of the trademark sounds of minimal house over the last few years. I particularly like “Dope Doreen” off this EP, which I’ve streamed below.
I’d hazard a guess when people complain, as they have in the last year or so, about “boring minimal” or stuff that “sounds like an insect walking over a microphone” (plus a million variants of the same sort of metaphor) a big part of the problem is those tracks with no real bass drum that have been around a lot in the last few years. So it’s quite cool to hear something really swinging like “Dope Doreen” but still using some of the sounds you’re used to from minimal.
I’ve never really been in a club at 6am as everything here in Dublin must close at 3am, but this is what I imagine is the perfect record for that time of night. Over here I might play something like this around midnight. Maybe that’s the case in other countries too, they just play the records again at 6am!
Check it out and if you like it go and buy the 12 or the files, you can hear the other tracks, plus a neat remix of Mikael Stavostrand’s awesome “Q Fresa”, on Sliwinski’s Myspace.

now this is my kind of minimal. to draw a crude line: i think the ‘insects over microphones’ type is more a troy pierce DJ set, and this is more like a daniel bell DJ set.
doesn’t audio werner run hartchef discos? his 12 on hello? repeat is a killer.

yeah I think hartchef has something to do with Werner, I am sure I have some other release on that label, but when I searched the archive of this blog it didn’t come up.
Must check that Audio Werner, there was a brilliant release late last year (I think) by him, on Circus Company.

yeah flatfunk. the werner isn’t out yet, but soon. he’s one of the most consistent minimal house producers — some real gems in his back cat. one of MY favourite techno videos (can you say wrong comment box?) involves one of his tracks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Amwg9YllDbA
hello? repeat is a cracking little label actually… a bit toooo warped sometimes (what they play in germany at 11am i reckon), but worth a check. love the half hawaii 12″ they put out earlier in the year.
