Weekend of the Night

So as I mentioned here this week’s show may not be uploaded as quickly as usual since it’s currently on the studio’s computer rather than on my (now broken) Archos media player (400 euro for 9 months of operation, ugh!)

In the meantime it’d be interesting to know what the Dubliners amongst you are doing this weekend. Or indeed what the non-Dubliners are doing.

Tonight there’s a clash of biblical proportions as Chilean and boss of Cadenza records Luciano and French mogul Dan Ghenacia play Tripod on Harcourt Street, while Dixon (Sonar Kollektiv/Innervisions/Get Physical)does a separate gig for Bodytonic in the Pod. (If you’re wondering about the similar names, both venues are owned by the same person, welcome to Dublin!)

It is a pretty tough decision, I haven’t really decided which to go to yet. It’s good to have a choice though!

As for Saturday night, I’m playing my first official gig at Pogo in the Pod since moving to that night a few weeks ago. I’ll be on from 11-1 followed by Eoin Cregan, so it should be a really fun night. If you want to come along drop me a mail.

I am throwing a house(…)warming in Amsterdam tonight that’s going to be a mess.

Next week is the Amsterdam Dance Event with (for me): Innervisions night with Ame and Dixon, Groove Armada concert featuring Roisin Murphy, party of a friend with some Italian techno dj’s and third day a Cocoon event with Sven Vath, Dominik Eulberg and Extrawelt :-D

I’m gonna hit Luciano, I’m very upset about missing Dixon though.

It’s ridiculous that they are both on at the same time. It’s not like there is an abundance of good gig’s on in Dublin so to have two of my favourite dj’s playing on the same night within about 100 yards of each other is very frustrating.

When it comes down to it, I’ve seen Dixon before but not Luciano.
I feel sorry for the promoter for each gig. I dont think either would pull massive numbers in Dublin even if there was no compitition but considering each act would pull such a similar crowd it’ll make numbers even scarcer.

Anyways like you said Ronan, it’s a nice problem to have. Might see you at Luciano.

luciano, and i know i’m gonna see you there

Ah I’d say Dixon will be full for certain, B’tonic are going for a long time and they’ve had him over before. Plus the Pod probably a bit more popular than Tripod and I imagine it’s cheaper than 20 quid.

  7. aidan wrote:

cheaper because you can get in for free you tightwad, i know your tricks fitzgerald

cheaper for those who can’t get in for free too!

What did you go to in the end Ronan? Thought Luciano was brilliant, cant remember the last time I enjoyed seeing a dj play in a Dublin club as much.

  12. Ronan wrote:

Yeah I enjoyed Luciano…but I felt the sound in Tripod kind of ruined it a bit. It wasn’t loud enough anywhere in the whole venue. You could hear people having a chat 10 metres away!

  13. Stef wrote:

Yeah, it was definitely not loud enough in there. Enjoyed Luciano a lot, just good house music and a set that was well put together.
