Other People #1-”Behind the Music”

(EDIT:Links are fixed, if you downloaded before 18.00GMT on Monday then maybe re-download the mixes to get the full versions. If not ignore this and read on! The first mix should be 1 hour 38 minutes, the second 1 hour 11 minutes.)
Right then! After deciding to do some guest mixes I started by asking some people I’ve dealt with before. And from here who knows where things will go.
One of the first names I thought of who fits this bracket, is a good DJ, and doesn’t have mixes all over the net was Ralf Kollmann, who runs Mobilee Records (hence my lame “behind the music” title above).
Ralf has given us two mixes which is quite a lot of music, but that’s necessary to get us through these depressing winter months. The first is a mix with none of his own artists included, and the second shows off some interesting upcoming Mobilee/Leena stuff including a new Sebo K single due in December. I asked him a few questions about the mixes and what is going on at Mobilee lately:
Can you tell me a bit about the first mix? It says “Ralf Kollmann@Berlin Mitte Institute fur Bessere Elektronische Musik”?
“First of all thanks Ronan for choosing to present this mix on your site. House Is A Feeling and Philip Sherburne’s blog are some of my essentials! Berlin Mitte Institut is a Berlin local radio show and we decided to do a live session in our Mobilee office and studios. Everything was set up in the Pan-Pot studio and it was a very private and nice atmosphere. Some beers and a joint later I started the mix in front of 6-7 relaxed people and I wanted them to stay relaxed. That’s it.”
What records are in there that you are particularly excited about lately?
“I am a big fan of Gulliaume & The Counto Dumonts. He just released an album on Canada’s Musique Risquée (Akufen´s Label) and a 12″ on Circus Company is coming up in the next weeks. Kabale & Liebe is someone to watch for the future. He is not only very talented producer - he is also a very nice and friendly guy and a good DJ. Mikael Stavöstrand is in a very good groove at the moment and the Romanian Petre Inspirescu is too of course. There is a very interesting club scene in Bukarest/Romania. We also get more and more demos from there sent to us at Mobilee.”
What about the second mix?
“I finished this mix today. It features a lot of new and upcoming stuff from Mobilee, Leena and other labels including the new Sebo K.”
What is the latest news from Mobilee/Leena?
“We just released the first Artists Album on Mobilee from Pan-Pot and it’s going very well. The guys are touring every weekend and got requests from Japan, Australia and Columbia right now. Anja is producing her first Album to be released April/May 2008. She is producing it together with Paul Brtschitsch who is also responsible for the next Leena, which is called “Hoop Up”. Next Mobilee is coming from GummiHz in two weeks and I just got the master for the new Sebo K “Far Out” coming in December. For the start of 2008 the second installment of the Back To Back Series is coming out - mixed and compiled by GummiHz. He mixed together 27 mobilee tracks and put some exclusive stuff of his own productions in it. Very interesting!”
Any plans to make music yourself?
“I have been doing it for years more or less but there are too many professional and talented producers around me and even if it would be easy to do it, to release something is a big challenge for me. Also I have a lot of work to do with Mobilee and don’t find enough time to really concentrate on production. But I have a new flat and have set up my small studio again so we will see what happens in the future. I have a lot of time and I even get some DJ bookings from time to time without having a release on Mobilee!”

I’m going to add these mixes to the regular podcast, I hope that’s okay with people. That’ll mean, once I begin podcasting the radio show again, that there will be 2 mixes most weeks (3 this week is an exception!) If anyone feels that’s too much then let me know. I guess you can always cancel a download even if you are subscribed to the podcast.
The guest mix should be a regular Monday feature. Coming up, some Canadians, an Englishman, and a Frenchman. Oh and this Irishman should be back with the usual Friday podcast just as soon as I decide what new gadget to record things onto.
Feel free to comment on these mixes below. And in case you don’t know, to subscribe copy and paste this link into your itunes (click “advanced” then “subscribe to podcast” then paste in the link)

Really liking that first mix. Funky, quirky, nice tempo, and well mixed too (must have been the joint). One question though: based on the tracklist and the fact that the mix is just over 51 mins, it seems that some of it’s missing? Seems to only get as far as the Dan Berkson track?
Anyway thanks to you for posting this and of course to RK for mixing it. Looking forward to more.

The first mix is really really great — awesome tracks and a wonderful tempo. A good example that really knows what it’s doing ; so the the explanation on how it came about is very useful
