The background to this one is basically that I’ve been into Ed Davenport’s stuff for quite a while now, especially his two Liebe*Detail singles. I think I thought it might be good to ask him for a DJ set after seeing his name on those feedback sections on Word and Sound, where you see DJs giving their two cents on whatever promos they’re given.

I doubt anyone consciously uses those to promote their skills, but maybe they should! I guess you can’t fake taste though. It’s funny cos just as often I’ll read one and think “oh this guy says ‘amazing, thank you so much’ on every release!”

So if you’re not familiar with his stuff this is a good place to start. This mix was recorded live@Kill the Disco in Leeds, at the beginning of November, and contains a lot of unreleased material. Check it out and hopefully you’ll enjoy it.

PS: I originally said “Dirty Disco” above but actually it’s the clubnight “Kill The Disco” that the mix is from, my mistake, two different nights! (One of these times I’ll put the guest mix up without a screw up!)

no comments on this one ?? baahh ! i’d say by the 3 near-accidents i caused while in my car listening to it: this one is fucking tight ! keep shining that light ronan ! i can’t imagine these guest podi’s getting any better.

Yeah for me I listened first on an ipod and I guess as it’s recorded live the levels aren’t extremely high, so it washed over a little. Then at the weekend I listened on monitors while I did some work and it kicked in.

It is a really good mix, and I’m not just saying that for the sake of it.

Already got number 3 lined up, after being approached by the person in question.

Also will be doing some more mixes myself quite soon as I ordered a field recorder to replace my crappy media player. Sound quality should be a lot better too.

I hope you don’t mind, Ronan, but I’ve linked to this and HIAF on my blog. It’s such an awesome mix - let me know if you’re unhappy with link and I’ll take it down if need be.

Not at all Chris, no problem.

I think it was a little bland (is that the right word?). Just records mixed together, no build-up. If you think I’m wrong or just don’t get it, feel free to comment.

If you think I just don;t get it, is what i meant to say

i dunno, i don’t really feel qualified enough to say but maybe it’s kinda like what ronan was talking about in that efdemin interview when he says “It’s like the old way of playing. There’s nothing really spectacular happening. It’s about feeling like “Okay. We are here. There is no time and I’m just dancing.” maybe you just like peaks and valleys more than a constant stream. either way it certainly requires a good amount of volume (i prefer blaring), more than an mp3 player can do. also, that lohn and brot remix is a tune !

I’d have to agree with Todd. To me, a mix like this is like scanning your eyes across a great painting or photograph: you’re picking up little details, sometimes parts kind of announce themselves to you unexpectedly - sometimes you pick up on details the second or third time round. It’s not peaks and troughs but something else - textures, perhaps? Not that there’s anything wrong with peaks and troughs either tho! :)

how bout your countryman’ mr.smoke for a guest one, i love his stuff and it seems he’s been a little quiet recently, if i remember correctly, wasn’t he supposed to be working on some hip-hop album or something, i thought i remember reading that, i could be wrong, it’s happened before.
