House Is A Feeling

People are saying “it’s that time of year” incessantly, so I suppose it must be that time of year. What time of year? That time of year when it is time for the year to come to an end, and people mark this in various ways, eg saying “it’s that time of year” everytime they sit at a keyboard.

And so come the lists (this is also a cliché). Of course lists are vulgar and crass and all of these things, that’s taken for granted (still in cliché mode). I’m still doing one though, mainly to have some sort of record of a year in which techno took up almost all of my time.

I’ve just spent a fairly agonising few hours doing a top 20 for Resident Advisor’s contributor poll, but I left my own personal list as a top 30. So, over the next 30 days or so until the end of the year, as often as I can, I’ll run through the chart from the bottom to the top, with a stream of the tracks and a little bit of chat.

Some days I might do a few tracks, other days just one. I’ll start with number 30 today, and by the time I get to number 1 the suspense will be extremely intense. You may need to sit down or have a sugary warm drink during the final week or two.

I guess the order isn’t massively important from 10-30, how do you place tracks in an ordered list of quality? It’s pretty much impossible. So let’s just enjoy 30 tracks from an original list of around 60. What a great year it’s been for house and techno.

Also, how about some kind of end of year mix? Time allowing I might try and mix the 30 tracks together, though I may need to use some other tracks to join the dots a bit. Anyway, stay tuned for all of the above.
