RA Reviews plus some news

I’ve done three RA single reviews this week. Read them here, here and here. I’ll be doing lots more of these this year and I’ll link to them all here.

Also, some of you may remember I blogged about Scott Ferguson’s “Wine Red Walls” recently. Although I really like the track I wondered: “Why not just make the beat in sync? Without it the track never lifts off as it should. Is that a stupid question? Am I missing the point? I hope not and I don’t think so. I guess artists are tempted to break out of the structures of house and techno”.

Well, Scott was kind enough to email me today with an answer. He said “You make a very good point I think. In reality I love my beats super sloppy as much as I enjoy superbly produced tight drum loops. I have deejayed since the mid 90’s and love it very much, in fact mixing records introduced me into the production world. With this track I mixed it ‘live’ cutting and looping on the fly, just making music for fun with no real objective, just a feeling. Things ended up how they did and I decided to leave it that way. Playing most of my productions to dance-floors has always been a challenge but I believe you’ll find a way.”

I love the internet for stuff like this, you talk about a record and the person who made it ends up being able to add their two cents too.  Anyway, just a quick post today, there’ll be something more substantial in the next day or two.

Interesting stuff… Both points are entirely valid. Guess some of Holden’s stuff is very similar. Just artists who don’t always make records with the dancefloor in mind. Which is fine
