Home Swede Home
So thanks to the Klubb Physique guys for a great weekend in Sweden and a fun gig on Saturday. It’s cool to go to another country to play records, a real buzz. Last year Romania, this year Sweden, as I continue to tour countries that were successful in the 1994 World Cup. If any Bulgarians are reading then get in touch.
Physique have booked Cassy for next month so that should be really great. Swedish people love house music. That’s what I’ve learned from this weekend. Any techno I played didn’t fly. This worked out well cos I was playing mostly house anyhow.
Here’s some of that house (no streams unfortunately on this crappy connection)
- Carsten Jost/Carsten Klemann-CC01 (Detroit) (Dial)-So this for me is the best thing on Dial for aeons, probably since Carsten Jost’s “Love”. It actually makes me want to dance and sounds like something beyond their usual erm, Dialtone.
- Johnny D-Orbitallife (Oslo)-It doesn’t get much better than this guy really, this is seriously ambitious stuff, so colourful and different. I still think “Deja-Vu” is his best record but this isn’t far behind, good b-sides too.
- Melon-Nitzi (Innervisions):My only experience of Dutch producer Melon is seeing him play a great set in Watergate last November, but this production was one of the standout tracks on the mix that Eurokai did for this blog. I like deep tracks that you can play when people are going crazy to spin them out a little bit.
- Ark, Mikael Weill, Les Cerveaux Lents-Tribute to Chicago (Karat):I haven’t bought a record on Karat for 3 years or so, but this one is much groovier than their usual stuff. I do own a good Mikael Weill 12 somewhere back in the old country.
- Marcus Fix-Cannibals (Cécille): I know, I know, that you all know I like Cécille. But then I reckon plenty of you do too. Marcus Fix is one of those producers who just does his own thing, it doesn’t really matter how relevant to anything else it is, it’s just better than most people. I’m still not sure how much I’ll play the three tracks on this out, but that’s just me, it’s still a brilliant release.

Check out Marcus Fix’s new one on below “yes you know me” for some deeper house vibes & a sweet old skool piano.

Nitzi and Orbitalife are both class. Saw Luciano over the weekend and he played Orbitallife, was soooo good to hear it over a massive sound system.
