When did you start DJing and how did you get into it?

I actually started buying House and Techno when i was about 15 but didn’t start djing until about 20. I had no intention or desire to become a dj initially but built up quite a collection. Believe it or not it was actually my friends and brother that kinda pushed me into djing as they said they’d prefer to hear me play my records than hear what we were hearing out at the time. My mum bought me my first technics turntable and a year later bought me the other with my brother and friends buying me the mixer. It was just left for me to buy some speakers and i was finally in business! I moved down to London after Uni in 2001 and soon after got my first gigs. After just a few gigs with a bit of luck and always being at their parties the faith guys picked me up and i started playing for them on a regular basis alongside some heroes of the time such as Doc Martin, Dubtribe, Ashley Beedle.

Who are your favourite producers at the moment?

Well at the moment im liking stuff from Jus Ed, Patrice Scott, Keith Worthy, Also Sascha Dive, Claro Intellecto, Guillaume and The Cotu Dumonts, Mountain People…

Any plans, either releases or parties, you think people might like to hear about?

There’s quite a bit going on at the moment. Martin Dawson and i have a project called Two Armadillos which is going really well. Had releases on Buzzin Fly, Four:Twenty and Dessous most recently. The most recent release “Hamlin” on Dessous which comes with a Sascha Dive remix is currently single of the week on Word and Sounds site. Also just done remixes for Dessous and Mood Music.

Secretsundaze wise our summer season has started well and is running every two weeks across summer at various locations. Have guests up coming including Onur Ozer, Jus Ed, Gullame and The Cotu Dumonts, Steve Bug amongst others. Other special events include our Sonar Party tbc on Sunday June 22nd and Lovebox on 19th July in Victoria Park in London.

Gig highlights over the next few months include: a Japan tour, Fabric, Croatia, Basics in Leeds, Weekend and The Tape Club in Berlin, Monza in Frankfurt, Harry Klein in Munich, Portugal, Volt Loves Summer Festival in Amsterdam, Monza in Ibiza and The Robert Johnson.

What is the average annual rainfall in the Amazon basin?

Geography was never my strong point at school….

In answer to Tom’s comment. There is a mixture of old and new on there…if it was full of old tracks i would take that on board. It also just happens at the moment with so many new respected producers aping older sound to reference some of those. Also i’m just about to start mixing secretsundaze volume 2 so had sadly keep some of my favourite new tracks back for use of the official comp.

i’m loving this. The 2nd half is gold

Ronan - thank you for this mix. We saw Giles play before Steve Bug at last weekend’s secretsundaze and he struck me as a seriously classy DJ. This mix confirms it. Thanks again.
