I've always been distinctly unenthusiastic about Hawtin despite seeing him loads of times. But his set in Singapore a couple of weeks back is actually the best I ever heard him play - much more varied and tuneful and less po-faced plip-plop. It went all disco at the end as well, which was very unexpected.

richie really ain't what he was. i am not too fussed about seeing him or downloading his sets these days, but there was a time where i would be desperate to see him/hear him. at his best, i don't think i've seen any other dj that comes close. the problem is that he is very rarely, if ever, at his best these days. too much coke and bitches.

With Hawtin you never know what yer gonna get. I've heard him play legendary sets (for instance this one @ Paradiso, his last record despite the ones in charge there who want to call it quits, a funny vid I think and a great last track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqd5UjXWvzw ), but I've seen him play utter crap on Youtube as well that you could identify as pinball minimal..

I'll be there sillydancing down the front probably if you fancy something to laugh at...

Personally I think he's great fun for a party - I really enjoy listening to him and getting punched in the gut by whatever ridiculous kick noise he decides to conjure up next. And I like how varied his sets can be too.

Apparently they've got more bars and portaloos this time round...

Also if there's one set of his to listen to, try the Anti Pop 2007 set, it's pretty good.

I've seen him a fair few times over the last two years, for various reasons. Once, at Pressure in Glasgow last October, he absolutely blew me away, there was no restraint in his set, it was full-on for two and a half hours. Actually one of the better sets I've ever heard. The other five or so times were mostly meh, with some outright dull and some good thrown in. His set at Fabric for the minus 10th birthday went from the good to the quite shit several times over the course of the five hours.

I totally agree about Hawtin - downloaded a few sets now and never listened to any of them again, he just doesn't seem to make the kind of music I want to dance or listen to and that whole cube malarky is frankly hilarious

this website is quite funny:
