“I am not there”

When I read this Ryan Elliott interview the first thing I thought of is how much of a Patrick Bateman vibe I get from the American minimal dudes.
If someone remade or rewrote American Psycho, I think Patrick Bateman should like contemporary American minimal techno, not Phil Collins (though Easton Ellis wrote the book long before […]

Softer, Worse, Slower, Weaker

Daft Punk live, LA 1997. Can’t you just feel the 90s dripping from your screen as you watch this? It just looks so wild and unchained. Someone posted this on a forum this week and one response was simply “acid house!” which pretty much sums it up.

Daft Punk live, Oxegen Festival, Ireland, 2007. Well, it’s […]

Word No Sound

Dear Consumer Watchdog,
I am a young (ish) DJ living in Dublin, Ireland. I recently purchased 3 tracks from Argenis Brito’s fine LP on Cadenza at the shambolic but often gem heavy MP3 division of Word and Sound
Sadly, when I went to play these tracks yesterday in my home , I noticed the volume is […]

Mount Pleasant

The feeling of night turning into morning is one I’m sure most of you are familiar with. Whether you’re in a house or outdoors or even in a club, sometimes records come along that seem to encapsulate that 5am feeling. And one side of the new Mountain People 12 is definitely a case in point.
The […]

Something New

So here’s the first installment in a new monthly column I’ll be doing for Resident Advisor. I’m quite excited about the chance to write about house and techno at length in a place that still gives me plenty of freedom to pick the topic or the artists to speak to.
As for this month’s edition, […]

Woody or wouldn’t he

So, for those who care, it seems Martin from Connaisseur Recordings can confirm that Woody Allen absolutely, 100 per cent, definitely, WAS on the guestlist for the Mobilee party as rumoured last week. Other people on Martin’s guestlist included Tiger Woods, Ian Paisley, Osama Bin Laden, and of course long time techno fan Elijah Wood.

Ef-Da-Man

If you have any interest in house music, do yourself a really big favour and download Efdemin’s amazing (and free) Resident Advisor podcast.
For some, the fact that Efdemin is resident at the ever-hallowed German venue the Panorama Bar is enough said as regards his ability to select and mix house music. But even if a […]

Playing tomorrow night

If you’re out in Dublin tomorrow night I’m playing at the Acii Disco night in the Hub from 1.30 to 3.00, with Brian Cairns beforehand. Should be fun and probably completely fucking crazy (always good), if it’s anything like their other events, so drop down if you’re around. I’ll be the one with the headphones.
